Artemisia vulgaris

Family: Asteraceae

Constituents: Volatile oil (thujone, borneol, cineole, pinene), sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, coumarins, bitter principlĀ e, tannins.

Milder in function than other Artemisia herbs.

Bitter – stimulates digestive juices

Nervine – acts as a mild tonic to the nervous system (may be due to the volatile oils)

Diaphoretic – encourages sweating

Anthelmintic – expel parasitic worms (helminths) and other internal parasites from the body

Choleretic – increases secretion of bile from the liver

Emmenagogue – can help regulate menstruation

Dreamer’s herb, stimulates the imagination and promotes vivid dreaming. Burn herbs, smoke, use hydrosol or take tea before bed.

My work with this herb

July 2019: Found growing abundantly in Aberdyfi (near Cemetery Beach). Gathered for burning bundles, incense and tea. Gathered from Gasworks Lane (small patch, only took a little) to make a hydrosol.
